Planning that Friday night hangout with your friends, why not try the Afropolitan Vibes? Previously held every third Friday of the month, before being changed to every third Friday of every quarter, the Afropolitan vibes is a live musical concert.
Created by Ade Bantu and Abby Ogunsanya in 2013, it was formerly held at the Freedom Park, a former British Colonial Prison in Lagos Island before moving to the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.
The aim of the show is to promote alternative music, and no miming is allowed at the shows. Singers normally perform original works that are rooted in African origin of Afrobeat, Afrofunk, Afro hip hop, Afro pop etc.
Artistes who have performed at the Afropolitan vibes in recent times include Daddy Showkey, Inyanya, Paul Play, to mention a few. Over the years, Afropolitan Vibe Franchise has evolved and has now produced The Afropolitan Vibes Festival and The Urban Session.
The Afropolitan Vibes Music Festival’s maiden edition was held on the 16th and 17th of December 2016 and ffeatured concerts, music workshops and art festivals. The Urban Sessions are smaller acoustic gigs and have featured Brymo, Falana, Ayo Awosika, Keziah Jones among others.
So, I can safely assume that at the next edition of the Afropolitan Vibes, I would be seeing you.
